IPL Title Winners - Best 6 IPL Franchise, IPL HIstory

There are only six IPL Franchise who have the tag of IPL Title Winners. Indian Premier League is predominantly an 8-team format mostly but for the three consecutive seasons 2011-2013 when the tournament had 9 or 10 teams.

Also, there are thirteen teams who have played this popular T20 tournament, with five teams not continuing it further. So, here we talk about the teams who are IPL title winners.

6. Deccan Chargers

The Hyderabad based IPL Franchise in the first five seasons of Indian Premier League, Deccan Chargers, twice qualified for the playoffs in 2009 & 2010. While they entered the finals in 2009 and won it, they couldn’t go further in the next season. The franchise though got itself into the list of IPL title winners.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium based franchise pulled out of league post 2012 season due to financial troubles, but not before they had one title to their credit. While Captain Adam Gilchrist top scored with 564 runs in 2009 with 85 as his best for the team in the season of win (2009), RP Singh took 26 wickets with 4/22 as his best.

5. Sunrisers Hyderabad

The Hyderabad based IPL Franchise which came into existence in the sixth season of Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad, qualified for the playoffs five times, entered the title clash twice and won the tournament in 2016. While they entered the playoffs in 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, they could go further only in 2016 & 2018. The franchise thus got itself into the list of IPL title winners.

Skipper David Warner carried the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium based franchise to their title win as he scored 848 runs from 2016 with unbeaten 93 as his best. Bhuvneshwar Kumar took the most wickets for the winners in 2016 with 26 and 4/29 as his best from the season.

4. Rajasthan Royals

The Jaipur based IPL franchise has played 10 seasons out of 12. While they have qualified for playoffs 4 times, they entered final once and won it to make the best use of the opportunity. The season they reached playoffs were 2008, 2013, 2015 & 2018 and they won the inaugural edition in 2008. The franchise got itself into the list of IPL title winners in the tournament’s first season.

Shane Watson, Graeme Smith & Yusuf Pathan made it possible for the Sawai Man Singh Stadium outfit as these three were among the top 10 scorers in 2008 with 472, 441 & 435 runs respectively while Sohail Tanvir, Shane Warne & Shane Watson were among the top 4 wicket takers of the season with 22, 19 & 17 wickets respectively.

3. Kolkata Knight Riders

The Kolkata based IPL franchise has played all 12 seasons, qualified for playoffs 6 times, winning twice with a 100% title clash win record. The season they reached playoffs were 2011, 2012, 2014, 2016 & 2018, entered finals in 2012 & 2014 which they came out triumphant. The franchise got itself into the list of IPL title winners twice.

Gautam Gambhir carried his team to 2012 crown as he was among the top 2 run scorers this season with 590 runs whereas Sunil Narine was among the top 2 of wickets with 24 wickets, just one behind the top wicket-taker Morne Morkel. Robin Uthappa carried his team to 2014 crown as he was the top scorer this season with 660 runs whereas Sunil Narine was again among the top 2 of wickets with 21 wickets, just two behind the top wicket-taker Mohit Sharma.

2. Chennai Super Kings

The Chennai based IPL franchise has played 10 seasons, qualified for playoffs 10 times, entered finals 8-times, winning thrice. The season they entered finals were 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 & 2019 and they came out triumphant in 2010, 2011 & 2018. The franchise thus got itself into the list of IPL title winners, and in silver colors as they won it multiple times.

Suresh Raina & Murli Vijay took their team to 2010 crown as they were among the top 5 run scorers this season with 520 & 458 runs whereas Muttiah Muralitharan was among the top 10 of wickets with 15 wickets. Mike Hussey, Suresh Raina & Murli Vijay were in top 10 run scorers in 2011 with 492, 438 & 434 runs whereas Ravichandran Ashwin & Doug Bollinger were among the top 10 of wickets with 20 & 17 wickets. Ambati Rayudu & Shane Watson were among the top 5 run scorers this season with 602 & 555 runs whereas Shardul Thakur was in top 10 with 16 wickets.

1. Mumbai Indians

The Mumbai based IPL franchise has played all 12 seasons, qualified for playoffs 8 times, entered finals 5-times, winning 4-times. The season they entered finals were 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017 & 2019 and they came out triumphant in 2013, 2015, 2017 & 2019. The franchise thus got itself into the list of IPL title winners, and in golden colors as they won it the most number of times.

Rohit Sharma & Dinesh Karthik were among the top 10 run scorers in 2013 with 538 & 510 runs whereas Harbhajan Singh, Mitchell Johnson & Lasith Malinga were among the top 10 of wickets with 24, 24 & 20 wickets. Lendl Simmons, Rohit Sharma & Kieron Pollard were among the top 10 run scorers in 2015 with 540, 482 & 419 runs whereas Lasith Malinga, Harbhajan Singh & Mitchell McClenaghan were among the top 10 of wickets with 24, 18 & 18 wickets.

Parthiv Patel was among the top 10 run scorers in 2017 with 395 runs whereas Jasprit Bumrah & Mitchell McClenaghan were among the top 5 of wickets with 20 & 19 wickets. Quinton de Kock was among the top 3 run scorers in 2019 with 529 runs whereas Jasprit Bumrah was among the top 5 of wickets with 19 wickets.
