In the face of many obstacles, the Sept. 11 Triller Fight Club pay-per-view event is happening. Evander Holyfield returns to the boxing ring against former MMA champion Vitor Belfort.
The lead-up to Holyfield vs. Belfort was chaotic. Holyfield wasn’t in the picture until a week before fight day. Oscar De La Hoya was the original opponent for Belfort, but he was hospitalized with COVID-19.
De La Hoya is doing much better but was unable to compete against Belfort. Holyfield was offered the fight and felt like he was in good enough shape to take on the challenge. He looked slowed by age in his media workout, but his physique is impressive.
Belfort is 44 years old and hasn’t competed in MMA since 2018, but the former UFC light heavyweight champion also looks cut and ready to fight. He hasn’t boxed since 2006, but Belfort is 14 years younger than Holyfield and hopes his athleticism will win him the fight.
Holyfield enjoys a 2-inch height and nearly 20-pound weight advantage over Belfort. Will that be enough to overcome his age?
We’ll have to wait and see for that one.
ESPN’s Mike Coppinger tweeted that Mike Tyson will be in attendance for Holyfield vs. Belfort. Holyfield and Belfort are boxing eight two-minute rounds scored by three judges, and a winner will be declared in the end.
Can Holyfield defy expectations and get the win against the younger Belfort? If he does win, will he fight Tyson next? Follow along with FanSided for round-by-round updates and highlights to get the answers to those questions.
